During the Great Lent of 1958, a priest visited the blessed Father Charalambos Vasilopoulos (+1982) in his cell at dawn.

“Please come with me,” he says to him, “to the Saint Paul clinic, to hear the confession of and give communion to a sick man. I want him to get well for his relatives, who live far from the Church. Their minds are on money. No one is interested. Only the patient’s fiancée is devout, and she wants him not to depart unprepared.”

They went together to the clinic, performed the mystery of Holy Unction, and then Father Charalambos tried to hear his confession. Unfortunately, he was experiencing lapses of consciousness. Nevertheless, with difficulty, some rudimentary confession was made. Afterward, he gave him communion.

Well then, he got better! The Divine Communion worked its miracle. And on Thomas Sunday, he celebrated his wedding.

In 1959, one evening, Father Charalambos was called to visit a very refined elderly woman with heart disease, who lived below Lycabettus.

She had lived in Russia and then in Marseille, where she converted from Catholicism to Orthodoxy. Now she was 85 years old but did not want to receive communion. However, Father Charalambos brought the Immaculate Mysteries with him, in case he could persuade her. The doctor, as her family informed him, said she would certainly die that same night.

When he entered the house, and she saw him, she says to him: “I’m leaving.”

“You’re not going anywhere,” he answers her. “I brought you the medicine. Do you have anything to tell me?”

She immediately confessed willingly and received communion.

After the Divine Communion, she took a turn for the better.

In the morning, they notified the doctor. “Didn’t she die?” he wondered. When he visited her, he was amazed. He found that his medicines and science proved useless in the face of the power of Divine Communion.

Eventually, the elderly woman was healed and lived for another five years.
